In a surprise announcement, Donald Trump has officially selected Linda McMahon for the position of Education secretary.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has designated Linda McMahon, who is serving as his transition co-chair, to be his nominee for the next United States secretary of education.

This decision, which Trump made public on Tuesday night and confirmed earlier by CNN, took place after it became apparent that McMahon would not be appointed as the Commerce secretary. Earlier in the Tuesday, Trump had appointed Howard Lutnick, another co-chair of his transition team, to carve out the leadership of the Commerce Department after the Cantor Fitzgerald head had earlier come out to compete for the position of Treasury secretary, thus fighting off hedge fund manager Scott Bessent.
