Nevertheless, some in the agency have pointed out that Bongino and the other names being mentioned as potential candidates do not have any administration experience, which did not stop Trump from making peculiar selections, such as appointing former Rep. Matt Gaetz to head the Department of Justice.

Engel and former Assistant Director of President’s Security Tony Ornato played significant roles in the investigation by the House January 6 committee, particularly after a former White House employee, Cassidy Hutchinson, claimed that Ornato was the one who told her about Trump lunging towards Engel due to being prevented from going to the Capitol post his speech at the Ellipse.

To the committee, Engel claimed he had no memory of the prior conversation that Hutchinson described and further claimed he did not remember Trump making a motion toward him. Ornato also testified before the committee that he did not remember this episode happening or even narrating it to Hutchinson.
