Gaza heads into yet another stage of its human catastrophe, wherein the most recent phase of measures instituted by the blockades has indeed prolonged the already extremely violent war:
Severe Shortages in Resources
Gaza has a total population of more than 2.2 million people, having food, goods, water, fuels, and electricity. These resources have been severely cut off by the Israeli authorities’ blockades. It forces the residents to be denser and denser desperate.
Civilian Toll Increasing
With the escalation of fighting – now more toward the northern half of the enclave – injury and displacing civilians continue to peak new heights, afflicting an already convoluted humanitarian machinery working within and outside the enclave.
ICC Indictment against Israeli PM
The International Criminal Court, or ICC, recently indicted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for purported war crimes that would have been committed by Israel in its incursions into Gaza. It would only worsen an already heated political climate and could complicate diplomatic efforts aimed at ameliorating the situation.
Calls for Solution
For example, in addition to providing emergency short-term relief, there is a greater demand for a permanent solution to underlying causes of violence. This includes dialogue toward permanent peace and rights of civilians in Gaza.
Calls for immediate humanitarian relief as well as long-run plans to alleviate suffering remain. The situation, however, is still critical and would worsen further without intervention.
